The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season introduces a large cast of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator stated recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
