Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
