19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

It is his maiden championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to get a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

His retrieving approach and regular outbursts on court had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour victory, took control to create a final set.

Moutet defended four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
