Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior representative stated the attack made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
